How to Use a Food Processor

A food processor can be a handy machine to keep in your kitchen. Created in 1970, this appliance has become every kitchen owner's top priority. Cuisinart is a famous brand of home appliances and you can find Cuisinart parts easily all over the world from various vendors.

To get the best out of the machine, you should always know how to use it properly. You can cut or chop a number of vegetables and fruits which include cabbages, carrots, radishes, apples and even cheese. Cheddar or mozzarella cheese can easily be shredded in this machine.

The first thing you need to do when you want to shred something is to choose the appropriate blade fitting and insert it into the food processor. After that, lock the lid onto the bowl and fix it in the processor. This will allow the machine to run. Cut off the leaves and the other unwanted parts of fruits or vegetables and put these in the feed tube of the processor. Always remember to fill the bowl according to the suggested level; otherwise the contents may seep out, creating a mess that you will have to clean up.

If you want, you can move the plastic pusher to move the food around the bowl. You can use this machine for cutting vegetables, crushing biscuits and crackers for crust making, to smooth sauces and also for pureeing your baby's food. You can use the S-shaped blade for preparing soups. You only need to add broth and vegetable chunks (these can include potatoes, carrots and onions, for example) and turn your machine on for about thirty seconds. For chopping other kinds of food without pureeing it, always use the pulse button rather than turning the food processor on so that you can arrive at your desired consistency.

You can also use your processor to shred nuts with the help of a grinding blade. When you switch on your processor it will chop the nuts into the shape of a ball, which it will then convert into a thin butter paste. You can easily chop almonds and peanuts in it but it might be a bit difficult for walnuts and pecans.

For shredding cheese, freeze the cheese block for 20 minutes, put it in the processor and press the pulse button. It will take only a few seconds. If your processor stops working, you can always install new Cuisinart parts to make it functional again.

Cuisinart DLC-2007N Prep 7 7-Cup Food Processor Specifications

Equipped with an extra-large feed tube, a small feed tube, a dough blade, and slicing and shredding discs, this 600-watt, 7-cup, midsize food processor provides all the power, versatility, and capacity needed by most households. Cooks experienced with Cuisinart food processors will welcome the new feed tube and pusher assembly, which are easy to use--at 4-1/4 inches by 2-3/4 inches, the large, oval feed tube accommodates whole fruits and vegetables. The small, cylindrical tube is located inside the pusher assembly and has its own hollow pusher, which removes with a twist. On the bottom of the small pusher is a pin-hole for dribbling oil into the bowl while making mayonnaise.

The Lexan work bowl is virtually shatterproof and impervious to heat or cold. There's the familiar stainless-steel chopping blade and a dough blade, which easily kneads up to 1-1/2 pounds of dough. Stainless-steel slicing and shredding discs, a plastic spatula shaped for the work bowl, a recipe booklet, and an instruction video showing basic use, tips and techniques, and preparation of some recipes from the booklet complete the package. (Existing Cusinart blades and discs also fit this machine.) Cuisinart warranties the motor against defects for 10 years and the remaining parts for three years. --Fred Brack
